The cause of deformities and irregularities of the nasal septum is usually trauma, but more often it is a developmental disorder. The consequence is blocked nasal breathing, or worsening of snoring, and frequent ear congestion may also occur.
After nasal septum plastic surgery (possibly in combination with reduction of nasal turbinates), there is an improvement in nasal breathing, reduction of snoring, and decreased inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. Even during sports activities, the patient experiences a significant improvement in nasal breathing, which contributes to improved performance.
Basic Information
- The operation is performed under general anesthesia, and the patient stays for observation for 1 night after the procedure
- Special instruments are used, through the nostrils, without external scarring
- Nasal packing is removed on the second day after surgery
- Thin foil splints in the nose remain for 7 days and are removed on an outpatient basis
- For improved healing, post-operative care of the nasal cavities is necessary, including rinsing with Vincentka and applying boric acid ointment
- Return to normal routine is possible after about 10-14 days
- Intensive sports activities are not recommended for 4 weeks after surgery
