A feeling of a stuffy nose and impaired nasal breathing can be caused by a thickened or "crooked" nasal septum. The cause may be a nose injury, but more often it's a developmental disorder. In addition to blocked nasal breathing, snoring may also worsen.
After nasal septum surgery (possibly in combination with reduction of nasal turbinates), there is improvement in nasal breathing, reduction in snoring, and decrease in sinus infections. Even during sports activities, the patient experiences significant improvement in nasal breathing, which contributes to improved performance.
Basic Information
- The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, after which the patient stays for 1 night for observation
- Work is done with special instruments, through the nostrils, without external scarring
- Nasal packing is removed the day after surgery
- Thin foil splints in the nose remain for 7 days, removed on an outpatient basis
- For improved healing, post-operative nasal cavity care is needed, rinsing with Vincentka and applying perborate ointment
- Return to normal routine is possible after approximately 10-14 days
- Intensive sports are not recommended for 4 weeks after surgery
