Cone biopsy of the cervix is an effective diagnostic and therapeutic method used in the treatment and diagnosis of cervical abnormalities, especially after an unfavorable result of oncological cytological examination.
At Chirkoz Clinic, we offer safe and professional cone biopsy performed by experienced gynecologists with an emphasis on prevention and early detection of precancerous conditions.
What is cone biopsy?
Cone biopsy is a small surgical procedure, in which a cone-shaped incision removes part of the cervix containing pathological or suspicious cells. It serves to confirm or exclude cancerous changes and in case of early detection often suffices as the only treatment without the need for further therapy.
When is cone biopsy recommended?
- With abnormal cytological results (e.g., PAP test)
- After a positive HPV test
- When suspecting precancerous or cancer cells
- For removal of lesions with unclear findings
- As prevention before development of cervical cancer
Procedure course
- The procedure is performed under general anesthesia
- It takes approximately 15 minutes
- The patient arrives fasting and is briefly monitored after the procedure
- In case of good condition, she is discharged for home care on the same day
After the procedure
- Light bleeding lasting 2–4 days (like menstruation) is normal
- It is recommended to use pads, not tampons
- For several days it is necessary to avoid sexual intercourse, bathing, sports and lifting heavy objects
- If heavy bleeding, fever above 38°C or foul-smelling discharge occurs, contact your doctor
